Nichole Schappert grew up among the expansive farmlands and rolling hills of Iowa. She is a transdisciplinary artist and educator whose practice is informed by industrial sites, human connection to land & water, and time. Nichole challenges and confronts what [to her] it means to be feminine in male dominated environments.
Site specific and diagrammatic installations illustrate a meditation on the space, time and identity of locations. Probing the aesthetics of Minimalism, Nichole uses concrete, technology and form to juxtapose the cultural associations of male-dominate materials [concrete, steel, wood] to express her thoughts on her identity. Through repetition and the re-contextualization of found objects she examines the performative power of the female body through reproduction. Nichole’s process embraces imbalance, alienation and vulnerability.
Nichole holds an MFA from The University of Tennessee - Knoxville in the concentration of Painting & Drawing. In addition to participating in, and curating multiple exhibitions throughout the United States, she has attended residencies and workshops focused on performance and sound.
